| Ou Jujia, a revolutionary in Guangdong during the Late Qing Dynasty, wrote a famous political commentary titled New Guangdong, attempting to unify the ethnic groups within Guangdong, which expressed the localism for the independence of Guangdong, and also brought earnest request of a nation state construction to the public. His concept had gone through the gestation and dissolution of local nationalism. Through the further study of New Guangzhou,this paper is expected to probe into the complex nature of the nationalism among then intellectuals in southern China. |
