| Lin Mang’s works embody at least three tiers of meanings about Baiyangdian: geographical, historical and of personal memory, which are not independent but interlaced and complemented with each other. In Lin Mang’s works, the geographical "Baiyangdian" is permeated with local natural environment and cultural atmosphere, and is also closely related with the culture in Beijing. In addition, Lin Mang’s writing of "Baiyangdian" is the product of a special historical background. Historical events such as "Farming-of-urban-intellectuals" and "cultural revolution" inevitably appear in Lin Mang’s writing, making "Baiyangdian" a historical symbol. However, "Baiyangdian" in Lin Mang’s works is not totally confined to those historical events, but more involved with personal feelings of life, which is beyond the specific location and becomes a personal memory field. |
