| From the perspective of Ecolinguistics, this paper examines the translation philosophy and practice of Lin Shu, a translator of the late Qing and early Republican period, in his translation work The Lady of the Camellias, exploring the interactive relationship between his translation activities and the linguistic and cultural ecology of that era. Lin Shu’s domestication strategy, his hybrid classical-vernacular language style, and cultural adaptation techniques effectively mitigated the resistance encountered in integrating Western literary elements into the local linguistic ecology, thereby maintaining relative stability in the traditional language ecology. His approach reflected a response to the cultural ecological demands amid the social turbulence of the late 19th century and contributed to the diversification of the linguistic system. |
